Ramadan 1431, (2010)

This year, Maulana Sulaiman Saleem will lead the taraweeh prayers this year at the Jamia. He was the first hafiz that came to this town when the first taraweeh prayers were organized by the Jamia. The Jamia offers 20 rakas of taraweeh prayers, the same as offered in Baitullah as well as Masjid Nabvi.

First day of Ramadan will be Wednesday, August 11, 2010 and Eid al-Fitr will be on Friday, September 10, 2010, insha'Allah. The Fiqh Council of North America (FCNA) and the European Council for Fatwa and Research (ECFR) recognize astronomical calculation as an acceptable Shar'i method for determining the beginning of lunar months including the months of Ramadan and Shawwal. FCNA & ECFR use Makkah al-Mukarramah as a conventional point, and take the position that the conjunction must take place before sunset in Makkah and the moon must set after sunset in Makkah.

On the basis of this method the dates of Ramadan and Eid ul-Fitr for the year 1431 AH are established as follows:
1st of Ramadan will be on Wednesday, August 11, 2010
1st of Shawwal which marks the start of Eid ul-Fitr - will be on Friday, September 10, 2010

The taraweeh prayers will inshallah begin Tuesday August 10, 2010

The Masjid organizes iftar and after iftar food program daily. Please contribute generously to the masjid funds so that the programs can run effectively. Volunteers are needed.

Those who want to sponsor iftar at the Jamia, please contact Khalid Khan.

Those interested in observing Itikaf at the Jamia in the last ten days of Ramadan should contact the Masjid.

Facebook Cartoon Controversy - Article by Dr Aslam Abdullah

Criticize Israel and you would be condemned, you might be called anti-Semitic and you would be described a Jew hater. Promote Hitler's Mien Kemp and you would be called a Nazi, a holocaust sympathisers and a reactionary. Question US aid to Israel and you might lose elections if you happen to be a congressman or even a councilor. Yet, when you draw Prophet Muhammad in an offensive manner, you would be hailed as a champion of free speech and you would be told that it is not about Prophet Muhammad, but about the inalienable right of every human beings to exercise free speech. Islam and Hazrat Muhammad (S.A.W.W.) in the eyes of Non-Muslim Scholars

In the desert of Arabia was Mohammad born, according to Muslim historians, on April 20, 571. The name means highly praised. He is to me the greatest mind among all the sons of Arabia. He means so much more than all the poets and kings that preceded him in that impenetrable desert of red sand. Click here to read more

Muslim Refugees in Town

Currently, there are several hundred Muslim refugees in town coming from Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, Ethiopia and other places. They are generally helped by Catholic charities. We found out that many of them are in the town for 8 months and have not been to a masjid. So we are creating a program to bring the refugees to the masjid at least for Friday prayers. We need brothers and sisters to drive them from their homes to the masjid. We also would like to arrange a special even for the refugees once a month. It is interesting to note that while Muslims remind each other of doing charitable work because Allah commands so, the Catholic and other non-Muslims are actually doing that work.
